Challenges
Although PLAVEB provided only HTML, CSS, and Javascript files to Omega Air for the client to later integrate, there were still many challenges for PLAVEB to tackle during the development of the new user interface. The biggest was perhaps the sprawling nature of the applications themselves; PLAVEB redesigned the interface for the main dashboard, a messaging system, system settings, user management, and over 30 other screens. All of these disparate elements had to be aesthetically unified. Additionally, the applications employ plugins that for the sake of compatibility, employ older, more established HTML standards and more limited support for CSS and Javascript effects. Lastly, but just as important, the design had to be efficient and usable. The software is used by engineers and technicians, so functionality always had to dictate form. The program had to be visually pleasing, but there was no room for gimmickry; every element had to contribute to the program’s functionality.
Solution
PLAVEB met the challenge head-on, combining our design savvy and technical know-how to produce an aesthetically unified and usable user interface. The user interface encompasses many different elements, simplifying previously complicated navigation, data tables, and input forms without sacrificing their robust functionality. Throughout the system, PLAVEB was sensitive to the strict requirements limiting the use of CSS, HTML, and Javascript to only the most universally supported elements. This ensured the interface would be compatible across platforms, including older browsers. Even with these limitations, the design is nevertheless unimistakably modern and elegant.
